Three young Nigerian-Irish teenagers have developed an app, called Memory Haven, which uses music to comfort those living with dementia.
The app has already won a prize at the prestigious technology competition, Technovation, beating 1,500 other entries from across 62 countries worldwide.
Rachel (15), Margaret(17) and Joy(17) were worried about how people with dementia were coping during the lockdown, so they decided to design and code Memory Haven.
According to data from Health Service Executive (2020), over 55,000 people living with dementia in Ireland while the World Health Organisation’s data revealed that there are over 50million people with dementia across the world.
The girls felt the urge to create the app after their mentor Evelyn Nomayo lost her mother to dementia.
Memory Haven has six main features including a health check, a photo wallet, a music playlist, reminder alerts, a reach out and a memory game feature.
The super teens said they hope the app can go global and reach millions of people who are affected by dementia. (BBC)
